كَحافِظِ اِبراهيمَ لَكِنَّهُ

أَجمَلُ خَلقاً مِنهُ في الظاهِرِ

Like Hafiz Ibrahim, but he

Is handsomer in appearance

فَلَعنَةُ اللَهِ عَلى حافِظٍ

إِن لَم يَكُن بِالشاعِرِ الماهِرِ

So curse on a guard

If he's not a skillful poet

لَعَلَّ أَرضَ الشامِ تُزهى بِهِ

عَلى بِلادِ الأَدَبِ الزاهِرِ

Maybe Syria's land will be adorned with him

Over the country of blooming literature

عَلى بِلادِ النيلِ تِلكَ الَّتي

تاهَت بِأَصحابِ الذَكا النادِرِ

Over the Nile country which

Got lost with rarely intellectual owners

شَوقي وَمَطرانَ وَصَبري وَمَن

سَمَّيتُهُ في مَطلَعي الباهِرِ

Shawqi, Matrane, Sabri and whom

I named in my shining beginning
