1. It is honor enough for these verses—and for me, when I recite them—

    that I offer them at the court of al-Faruq.

  2. O God, grant me eloquence by which I may find aid

    in discharging claims whose judge has fallen asleep.

  3. My soul has indeed urged me to fulfill them,

    yet it is beyond the power of one like me to fulfill them.

  4. Then bid the noblest of meanings come to my aid

    in this—for my powers are weak, unequal to it.
