O you who instill morals
In a land devoid of morals
None among us can rival you
Or compete with your stature
Yesterday you taught us
The ethics of writing and discourse
And today you delighted us
With the finest fruits
With Rustalis’s book you strove
In the wonders of astronomy
Struggling to prefer it
Joining your night with day
You weigh words as if they were
Jewels on a merchant’s scale
And guard the meaning of your Lord
Like pearls guarded in seashells
You hoard the words of poetry
As a farmer hoards fresh crops
I thought you were, in gracefulness
And trials and choices
A creation depicting
Pharaohs' images on temples
Reading his book, I felt
Reverence and learned
The translator stood by
The author's side, in a frame
A light radiating from them
Of awe and dignity
They said he abandoned
Politics and sought seclusion
Left the arena for others
And found safety in fleeing
Do not wrong the advocate
Of morals, beware of errors
He shunned politics for politics
Not for sleep or rest
Had they known the one
Behind the veil, they would have sought
The protector of nobleness
Truth and principles
Who provides pillars of
Morals, wisdom and discipline
The foundation of politics and success
The fortress of the sovereign sea
Entrusted with them, he held on
Before the cavalry and guards
O lover of honest morals
And hater of sinful morals
I have tested you, truly
In isolation and youth
No vulgarity or flattery
Occurred in your company
Sweet humility, and being humble
Is the mark of good people
Bitter arrogance when
Humility invites you to the poor
Walk your path calling
For you are protected from stumbling
And make lanterns on the trail
Appearing to every walker
We seek, wise one, books on
Politics, hasten before corruption
And before the spread of ruin
We struggle against a nation
Whose leaders are ferocious lions
They battled time and its people
And fortified themselves from all sides
Their politics have become like poison
Confusing every settler
If they deny some injustice
Against a man of prestige
It's because they forgot
The translator is in captivity
Ahmad did not know to quote
Verses of Qais or Nizar
He who excels in the syntax
Of eloquence and mastery
The language of science is facts
Far from our ornaments
It rejects exaggeration
And sees extravagance as a defect
Quoting without faithfulness
Is the hallmark of failure
