    Between my eyelids and sleep

An obstacle lies, if only you wished it gone

I and the days toss me

Between a longing one and an infatuated one

I have a heart in you, you deny

    My ribs weakened from sadness

And a sigh, if you knew of it

You would set the fire of separation in my body

    O my people, I am a man

Perplexed in my matter and my time

    Complaining of estrangement and hardship

This is the utmost of tribulations

O you who aspires in time

With an aspiration that transcends the prudent one

And a young man whose thoughts

In the nights of time, do not betray

O prince of pilgrimage, you are for it

The best guardian, the best trustee

The Sacred House shook for you

A shaking of longing for homeland

The land of Hijaz rejoiced in you

Its rejoicing in the fine drizzle

And the good news of the arrival came to it

With you from Egypt to Aden
