Circle around this grave and bid farewell,

And fulfill there what obligations you still owe.

Whose hopes exceeded what fates and resolves could allow.

Like dawn in the east, awakening all nations anew.

Seeds, from which morals and wisdom grew.

Built for the seeker of truth a pillar which cannot be demolished.

The zealous guardian, here the noble known to nations.

Oh you who sleeps serenely in his resting place,

Slumber softly, without care or illness.

The pulpits still ask after you in every tribulation,

As do the papers, pens and ink.

You left a void within us none can fill

Except a passionate heart, forever lit with ember.

    Sleepless, striving toward his goal,

His marks are universal, his hopes high as skyscrapers.

My heart tells me truly, and cannot lie,

I see a spirit circled by glory and grandeur.

I see majesty, I see light, I see an angel,

I see the living one who revives and smiles upon us.

God is great! This face I recognize -

This pride of the Nile, this singular flag.

Bow your eyes, and greet him in your hearts

When words fail to do justice.

And vow to defend his principles,

For we stand in a position where oaths are sweet.

We, your loyal ones, whom you roused

When you lived, and when the abyss claimed you.

We come to settle accounts over our stances,

To draw from you, prepare, and submit to judgment.

They told us to be silent, so we were, but then

The arrogance of the unkind made our pain speak out.

We were accused when we sought glory -

For the weak are suspected in both cases.

They said we had wronged ourselves, but God knows

    The oppressors are they.

When silent, they gossip - such is their way,

When we speak, they cry chaos and turmoil.

What do they want? Their eyes know no rest!

Gentleness cannot be hidden 'neath a banner.

How many nations desired it, but it took

No firm foothold around them in their lands!

Your Lord was not one to abandon it -

It clung to Him with ropes of His twisting.

Until the dusk falls and nations bear witness!

The Nile will know we are the best to flow through it,

And that pyramid gape in amazement at us!

These saplings you tended at the place they grew

With the best of what rain and spring breeze could allow.

Morning and night the eyes of God watched over them,

Until they blossomed and glory crowned them.

So look upon them, grown now and towering,

Exult in them, despite the envier's bitterness!

O youths! Follow in his example,

Press on, whether enemies approve or resent!

Each of you is chosen if you walk his path,

Each perfect if you endure weariness as he did.

He was never downcast, confronted adversity smiling -

Press onward, enemies' satisfaction or anger regardless!

O grave! Thirst drew us here -

So be generous, moisten our souls with reply!

Where is the youth whose freshness you hoarded?

Where is the ideal the Merciful Lord granted you?

What did you do with hopes of ours that wilted?

O grave, time effaced their image, tell us!

Why this silence, though we call out for water

To ease our inner thirst? Graves cannot speak!

    Sleep, you've suffered enough fatigue,

While we remain wakeful, band bound together.

His banner yet waves, shading us,

His form imprinted still on our hearts.
