I console the people, if only they heard my condolences,
And proclaim in their kingdom my elegy,
And I call on the British for satisfaction
With the rule of Allah, Almighty of the Heavens,
****
For all the worlds are unto demise.
Is it the sun of the kingdom or the sun of the day
That has fallen, or is it the sovereign of the seas?
So the West sheds tears
And the eye of the sea looks for steam,
With the gaze of a longing, restless hope.
****
The sovereigns of the sea—I care not
If they say you were lofty in speech,
For the like of your ascension I have not seen among glories,
Nor a crown like your crown in majesty,
Nor a people like your people in wisdom.
You have filled the earth with banners and troops
****
And brought glory to the Saxon nation,
And you were luck and joy for its fortunes.
The happiness of the full moon is seen in the light of your face
In the zodiacal house of bliss.
You were, when you set out to take vengeance,
Unleashing the righteous with the ferocious lion,
****
And you launched the cities into the seas,
And you rained upon the enemy blazing fires,
And you scattered the citadels in the air.
I console in you your crown and throne,
I console in you that great king,
I console in you the roaring lion,
****
Who ruled the ages,
And sheltered under him the loyalists.
I console in you the heroes of battle
Who suffered hardships in the fighting,
And cast the enemy into calamity,
And the heat of summer or the cold of winter
*****
Did not stop them atop the mountains.
