1. وَقَفَ الخَلقُ يَنظُرونَ جَميعاً

    كَيفَ أَبني قَواعِدَ المَجدِ وَحدي

    All people stood watching

    How I build the pillars of glory alone

  2. وَبُناةُ الأَهرامِ في سالِفِ الدَه

    رِ كَفَوني الكَلامَ عِندَ التَحَدّي

    And the pyramid builders of the past

    Found my words a challenge when contested

  3. أَنا تاجُ العَلاءِ في مَفرِقِ الشَر

    قِ وَدُرّاتُهُ فَرائِدُ عِقدي

    I am the crown of glorious men in the Orient

    Its pearls are the leaders of my apparel

  4. أَيُّ شَيءٍ في الغَربِ قَد بَهَرَ النا

    سَ جَمالاً وَلَم يَكُن مِنهُ عِندي

    What is in the West that dazzled people

    In beauty that I do not possess

  5. فَتُرابي تِبرٌ وَنَهري فُراتٌ

    وَسَمائي مَصقولَةٌ كَالفِرِندِ

    My soil is incense and my river Euphrates

    My skies polished like mirrors

  6. أَينَما سِرتَ جَدوَلٌ عِندَ كَرمٍ

    عِندَ زَهرٍ مُدَنَّرٍ عِندَ رَندِ

    Wherever you walk, there is a stream by a vine

    A blossoming flower, by a slender branch

  7. وَرِجالي لَو أَنصَفوهُم لَسادوا

    مِن كُهولٍ مِلءِ العُيونِ وَمُردِ

    And my men, if judged fairly, would excel

    Eyes full of old age yet they're virile

  8. لَو أَصابوا لَهُم مَجالاً لَأَبدَوا

    مُعجِزاتِ الذَكاءِ في كُلِّ قَصدِ

    If given the opportunity, they would demonstrate

    Miracles of intellect in every purpose

  9. إِنَّهُم كَالظُبا أَلَحَّ عَلَيها

    صَدَأُ الدَهرِ مِن ثَواءِ وَغِمدِ

    They are like antelopes whom the passing days

    Have rusted their sheaths from prosperity and battle

  10. فَإِذا صَيقَلُ القَضاءِ جَلاها

    كُنَّ كَالمَوتِ ما لَهُ مِن مَرَدِّ

    So if fate polishes them it reveals

    Blades like death which cannot be stopped

  11. أَنا إِن قَدَّرَ الإِلَهُ مَماتي

    لا تَرى الشَرقَ يَرفَعُ الرَأسَ بَعدي

    If God wills my death

    You will not see the East hold its head high after me

  12. ما رَماني رامٍ وَراحَ سَليماً

    مِن قَديمٍ عِنايَةُ اللَهُ جُندي

    No archer has shot me yet remained unharmed

    Since old, God's care has been my troops

  13. كَم بَغَت دَولَةٌ عَلَيَّ وَجارَت

    ثُمَّ زالَت وَتِلكَ عُقبى التَعَدّي

    How often a state tyrannized me and warred

    Then it perished, such is the consequence of aggression

  14. إِنَّني حُرَّةٌ كَسَرتُ قُيودي

    رَغمَ رُقبى العِدا وَقَطَّعتُ قِدّي

    I am a free woman who shattered her chains

    Despite the necks of enemies and severed their hands

  15. وَتَماثَلتُ لِلشِفاءِ وَقَد دا

    نَيتُ حَيني وَهَيَّأَ القَومُ لَحدي

    I looked to healing though I was dying

    When my people had prepared my coffin

  16. قُل لِمَن أَنكَروا مَفاخِرَ قَومي

    مِثلَ ما أَنكَروا مَآثِرَ وُلدي

    Tell those who denied the pride of my people

    Like they denied the achievements of my children

  17. هَل وَقَفتُم بِقِمَّةِ الهَرَمِ الأَك

    بَرِ يَوماً فَرَيتُمُ بَعضَ جُهدي

    Have you stood at the top of the greatest pyramid

    And seen some of my efforts one day?

  18. هَل رَأَيتُم تِلكَ النُقوشَ اللَواتي

    أَعَجَزَت طَوقَ صَنعَةِ المُتَحَدّي

    Have you seen those inscriptions that baffled

    The skill of the most competitive artisan?

  19. حالَ لَونُ النَهارِ مِن قِدَمِ العَه

    دِ وَما مَسَّ لَونَها طولُ عَهدِ

    Has the color of daylight changed since ancient times?

    Its hue untouched by the passage of time

  20. هَل فَهِمتُم أَسرارَ ما كانَ عِندي

    مِن عُلومٍ مَخبوءَةٍ طَيَّ بَردي

    Do you understand the secrets I once possessed

    Of hidden sciences wrapped in scrolls?

  21. ذاكَ فَنُّ التَحنيطِ قَد غَلَبَ الدَه

    رَ وَأَبلى البِلى وَأَعجَزَ نِدّي

    That is the art of embalming, it has overcome

    Erosion and exhausted the competitive

  22. قَد عَقَدتُ العُهودَ مِن عَهدِ فِرعَو

    نَ فَفي مِصرَ كانَ أَوَّلُ عَقدِ

    I made covenants since the days of the Pharaohs

    So my first covenant was in Egypt

  23. إِنَّ مَجدي في الأولَياتِ عَريقٌ

    مَن لَهُ مِثلَ أولَياتي وَمَجدي

    My ancient glory is deep-rooted

    Who has ancient glory like mine?

  24. أَنا أُمُّ التَشريعِ قَد أَخَذَ الرو

    مانُ عَنّي الأُصولَ في كُلِّ حَدِّ

    I am the mother of lawmaking, Rome took

    Its principles in jurisprudence all from me

  25. وَرَصَدتُ النُجومَ مُنذُ أَضاءَت

    في سَماءِ الدُجى فَأَحكَمتُ رَصدي

    And I mapped the stars since first

    They shone in the night sky, and perfected my mapping

  26. وَشَدا بَنتَئورَ فَوقَ رُبوعي

    قَبلَ عَهدِ اليونانِ أَو عَهدِ نَجدِ

    Orion rose above my lands

    Before Greece or Arabia's time

  27. وَقَديماً بَنى الأَساطيلَ قَومي

    فَفَرَقنَ البِحارَ يَحمِلنَ بَندي

    And long ago my people built navies

    To divide the seas carrying my banners

  28. قَبلَ أُسطولِ نِلسُنٍ كانَ أُسطو

    لي سَرِيّاً وَطالِعي غَيرَ نَكدِ

    Before Nelson's armada was my clandestine navy

    My fortune ever ascending, never waning

  29. فَسَلوا البَحرَ عَن بَلاءِ سَفيني

    وَسَلوا البَرَّ عَن مَواقِعِ جُردي

    Ask the sea about my ships' afflictions

    And ask the land about the sites of my cavalries

  30. أَتُراني وَقَد طَوَيتُ حَياتي

    في مِراسٍ لَم أَبلُغِ اليَومَ رُشدي

    Do you see me spending my life

    In ignorance, not reaching maturity?

  31. أَيُّ شَعبٍ أَحَقُّ مِنّي بِعَيشٍ

    وارِفِ الظِلِّ أَخضَرِ اللَونِ رَغدِ

    What people deserves a life of prosperity

    With lush shade and verdant color more than me?

  32. أَمِنَ العَدلِ أَنَّهُم يَرِدونَ ال

    ماءَ صَفواً وَأَن يُكَدَّرَ وِردي

    Do they want justice, to pour me

    Pure water, and to muddy my stream?

  33. أَمِنَ الحَقِّ أَنَّهُم يُطلِقونَ ال

    أُسدَ مِنهُم وَأَن تُقَيَّدَ أُسدي

    Or truth, to unleash

    Their lion, and cage my lion?

  34. نِصفُ قَرنٍ إِلّا قَليلاً أُعاني

    ما يُعاني هَوانَهُ كُلُّ عَبدِ

    Half a century I have suffered

    What every slave suffers in disgrace

  35. نَظَرَ اللَهُ لي فَأَرشَدَ أَبنا

    ئي فَشَدّوا إِلى العُلا أَيَّ شَدِّ

    God looked upon me and guided my sons

    To ascend, and firmly ascend!

  36. إِنَّما الحَقُّ قُوَّةٌ مِن قُوى الدَي

    يانِ أَمضى مِن كُلِّ أَبيَضَ هِندي

    Truth itself is but forces of religions

    More binding than any white satin

  37. قَد وَعَدتُ العُلا بِكُلِّ أَبِيٍّ

    مِن رِجالي فَأَنجِزوا اليَومَ وَعدي

    I promised every gentleman of my men

    Glory today, so fulfill my promise

  38. أَمهِروها بِالروحِ فَهيَ عَروسٌ

    تَسنَأُ المَهرَ مِن عُروضٍ وَنَقدِ

    Adorn her with spirit, she is a bride

    Who accepts a generous dowry

  39. وَرِدوا بي مَناهِلَ العِزِّ حَتّى

    يَخطُبَ النَجمُ في المَجَرَّةِ وُدّي

    Return to me the springs of honor until

    The planets court my affection

  40. وَاِرفَعوا دَولَتي عَلى العِلمِ وَالأَخ

    لاقِ فَالعِلمُ وَحدَهُ لَيسَ يُجدي

    Raise my state upon knowledge and ethics

    Since knowledge alone does not avail

  41. وَتَواصَوا بِالصَبرِ فَالصَبرُ إِن فا

    رَقَ قَوماً فَما لَهُ مِن مَسَدِّ

    Advise each other with patience, for if

    Patience parts from a people, nothing can mend it

  42. خُلُقُ الصَبرِ وَحدَهُ نَصَرَ القَو

    مَ وَأَغنى عَنِ اِختِراعٍ وَعَدِّ

    Patience alone has granted victory

    And sufficed without invention or support

  43. شَهِدوا حَومَةَ الوَغى بِنُفوسٍ

    صابِراتٍ وَأَوجُهٍ غَيرِ رُبدِ

    With enduring souls and unflinching faces

    Witness the fervor of turmoil

  44. فَمَحا الصَبرُ آيَةَ العِلمِ في الحَر

    بِ وَأَنحى عَلى القَوِيِّ الأَشَدِّ

    Patience has erased the mark of knowledge in war

    And leaned towards the strongest foe

  45. إِنَّ في الغَربِ أَعيُناً راصِداتٍ

    كَحَلَتها الأَطماعُ فيكُم بِسُهدِ

    In the West there are spying eyes

    Veiled by ambitions toward you

  46. فَوقَها مِجهَرٌ يُريها خَفايا

    كَم وَيَطوي شُعاعُهُ كُلَّ بُعدِ

    Above them is a microscope showing

    Secrets and piercing every cover

  47. فَاِتَّقوها بِجُنَّةٍ مِن وِئامٍ

    غَيرِ رَثِّ العُرا وَسَعيٍ وَكَدِّ

    So guard against them with concord

    Not ragged clothes, toil, and strain

  48. وَاِصفَحوا عَن هَناتِ مَن كانَ مِنكُم

    رُبَّ هافٍ هَفا عَلى غَيرِ عَمدِ

    And forgive the lapses of those among you

    Who erred erratically, undesigned

  49. نَحنُ نَجتازُ مَوقِفاً تَعثُرُ الآ

    راءُ فيهِ وَعَثرَةُ الرَأيِ تُردي

    We are crossing a stand where opinions stumble

    And stumbling thoughts lead to demise

  50. وَنُعيرُ الأَهواءَ حَرباً عَواناً

    مِن خِلافٍ وَالخُلفُ كَالسِلِّ يُعدي

    We rouse chaos on both its sides

    So the ignorant return it, and initiate

  51. وَنُثيرُ الفَوضى عَلى جانِبَيهِ

    فَيُعيدُ الجَهولُ فيها وَيُبدي

    The lost one believes there is no order

    And the strong says, my struggle is real

  52. وَيَظُنُّ الغَوِيُّ أَن لا نِظامٌ

    وَيَقولُ القَوِيُّ قَد جَدَّ جِدّي

    Stand in it with resolute determination

    And cast both its sides with readiness

  53. فَقِفوا فيهِ وَقفَةَ الحَزمِ وَاِرموا

    جانِبَيهِ بِعَزمَةِ المُستَعِدِّ

    We are at the dawn of a long night

    We have crossed amid channels and passion

  54. إِنَّنا عِندَ فَجرِ لَيلٍ طَويلٍ

    قَد قَطَعناهُ بَينَ سُهدٍ وَوَجدِ

    The darkness of horrors engulfed us

    Hopes between ebbs and flows

  55. غَمَرَتنا سودُ الأَهاويلِ فيهِ

    وَالأَمانِيُّ بَينَ جَزرٍ وَمَدِّ

    Its light has appeared after hardship

    A symbol of my restored reign

  56. وَتَجَلّى ضِياؤُهُ بَعدَ لَأيٍ

    وَهوَ رَمزٌ لِعَهدِيَ المُستَرَدِّ

    Clarify the purpose of the path, and strive

    For sublime deeds are sought by the glorious

  57. فَاِستَبينوا قَصدَ السَبيلِ وَجِدّوا

    فَالمَعالي مَخطوبَةٌ لِلمُجِدِّ
