1. غابَ الأَديبُ أَديبُ مِصرٍ وَاِختَفى

    فَلتَبكِهِ الأَقلامُ أَو تَتَقَصَّفا

    The writer of Egypt has passed away into hiding

    So let the pens mourn him or gracefully lament

  2. لَهفي عَلى تِلكَ الأَنامِلِ في البِلى

    كَم سَطَّرَت حِكَماً وَهَزَّت مُرهَفا

    My longing for those masterpieces worn by time

    That wrote wisdom and stirred the perceptive

  3. ماتَ المُوِلحِيُّ الحُسانُ وَلَم يَمُت

    حَتّى غَزا عيسى العُقولَ وَثَقَّفا

    Al-Muwailihi the witty did not die

    Until he conquered minds and cultured them
