الشَعبُ يَدعو اللَهَ يا زَغلولُ
أَن يَستَقِلَّ عَلى يَدَيكَ النيلُ
O Zaghloul, the people pray to God
That the Nile may gain independence by your hand
إِنَّ الَّذي اِندَسَّ الأَثيمُ لِقَتلِهِ
قَد كانَ يَحرُسُهُ لَنا جِبريلُ
He who sneaked in to assassinate you
Was guarded against by Gabriel
أَيَموتُ سَعدٌ قَبلَ أَن نَحيا بِهِ
خَطبٌ عَلى أَبناءِ مِصرَ جَليلُ
Will Saad die before we live through him?
Great sorrows upon Egypt's sons!
يا سَعدُ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ أَعظَمُ عُدَّةٍ
ذُخِرَت لَنا نَسطو بِها وَنَصولُ
O Saad you are the greatest equipment
We have stockpiled to charge with and climb high
وَلَأَنتَ أَمضى نَبلَةٍ نَرمي بِها
فَاِنفُذ وَأَقصِد فَالنِبالُ قَليلُ
You are the truest arrow we shoot
So march on and aim straight though arrows are few
النَسرُ يَطمَعُ أَن يَصيدَ بِأَرضِنا
سَنُريهِ كَيفَ يَصيدُهُ زَغلولُ
The eagle hopes to hunt on our land
Zaghloul will show him how he is hunted
إِنّا رَمَيناهُم بِنَدبٍ حُوَّلٍ
عَن قَصدِ وادي النيلِ لَيسَ يَحولُ
We have misled them with twisted warnings
Away from the Nile valley's intent, nothing deters it
بِأَشَدِّنا بَأساً وَأَقدَمِنا عَلى
خَوضِ الشَدائِدِ وَالخُطوبُ مُثولُ
With our harshest and earliest well-versed
In enduring adversity and fight we persist
بِفَتىً جَميعِ القَلبِ غَيرِ مُشَتَّتٍ
إِن مالَتِ الأَهرامُ لَيسَ يَميلُ
With a man whole of heart, undivided
Though the pyramids tilt, they will not tilt him
فاوِض وَلا تَخفِض جَناحَكَ ذِلَّةً
إِنَّ العَدُوَّ سِلاحَهُ مَفلولُ
Negotiate and do not lower your wing in humiliation
The enemy's weapon is broken
فاوِض وَأَنتَ عَلى المَجَرَّةِ جالِسٌ
لِمَقامِكَ الإِعظامُ وَالتَبجيلُ
Negotiate while you sit exalted
Yours is the station of reverence and honor
فاوِض فَخَلفَكَ أُمَّةٌ قَد أَقسَمَت
أَلّا تَنامَ وَفي البِلادِ دَخيلُ
Negotiate, behind you a nation has sworn
It will not sleep while hostile troops occupy the land
عُزلٌ وَلَكِن في الجِهادِ ضَراغِمٌ
لا الجَيشُ يُفزِعُها وَلا الأُسطولُ
Though isolated, they are fiercely resistant in battle
Unshaken by military or naval forces
أُسطولُنا الحَقُّ الصُراحُ وَجَيشُنا ال
حُجَجُ الفِصاحُ وَحَربُنا التَدليلُ
Our navy stands for honesty, our army reason's proof
Our war is not incited by spears and swords
ما الحَربُ تُذكيها قَناً وَصَوارِمٌ
كَالحَربِ تُذكيها نُهىً وَعُقولُ
Like war incited by passion and minds unwise
Wage it there with certainty armored
خُضها هُنالِكَ بِاليَقينِ مُدَرَّعاً
وَاللَهُ بِالنَصرِ المُبينِ كَفيلُ
God will surely grant manifest victory
Their leader wears arms while our leader
أَزَعيمُهُم شاكي السِلاحِ مُدَجَّجٌ
وَزَعيمُنا في كَفِّهِ مِنديلُ
Holds but a handkerchief
Yet that handkerchief strikes truer
وَكَذَلِكَ المِنديلُ أَبلَغُ ضَربَةً
مِن صارِمٍ في حَدِّهِ التَضليلُ
Than a sharpened sword of delusions
You have a stand in the East known to the high
لَكَ وَقفَةٌ في الشَرقِ تَعرِفُها العُلا
وَيَحُفُّها التَكبيرُ وَالتَهليلُ
Surrounded by magnification and praise
Rock it in the West to humble all arrogant
زَلزِل بِها في الغَربِ كُلَّ مُكابِرٍ
لِيَرى وَيَعلَمَ ما حَواهُ الغيلُ
To see and know what the unknown conceals
Do not approach the Thames beware its return
لا تَقرَبِ التاميزَ وَاِحذَر وِردَهُ
مَهما بَدا لَكَ أَنَّهُ مَعسولُ
However sweet it may appear to you
Poison is blended in its purest water
الكَيدُ مَمزوجٌ بِأَصفى مائِهِ
وَالخَتلُ فيهِ مُذَوَّبٌ مَصقولُ
And smooth, melted malice in it dissolves
How many came to its water before you Saad
كَم وارِدٍ يا سَعدُ قَبلَكَ ماءَهُ
قَد عادَ عَنهُ وَفي الفُؤادِ غَليلُ
Only to return from it with rancor in heart
That people have taken reign of their time
القَومُ قَد مَلَكوا عِنانَ زَمانِهِم
وَلَهُم رِواياتٌ بِهِ وَفُصولُ
With narratives to it and phases
With clever guiles when deployed
وَلَهُم أَحابيلٌ إِذا أَلقَوا بِها
قَنَصوا النُهى فَأَسيرُهُم مَخبولُ
They hunt peacocks, taking reason captive
Beware their politics and remain wakeful Saadi
فَاِحذَر سِياسَتَهُم وَكُن في يَقظَةٍ
سَعدِيَّةٍ إِنَّ السِياسَةَ غولُ
Wakefulness, Saad indeed politics are deceit
If they depict, let imagination go
إِن مَثَّلوا فَدَعِ الخَيالَ فَإِنَّما
عِندَ الحَقيقَةِ يَسقُطُ التَمثيلُ
For against reality, depictions fail
In politics' view, yards are leagues
الشِبرُ في عُرفِ السِياسَةِ فَرسَخٌ
وَاليَومُ في فَلَكِ السِياسَةِ جيلُ
In politics' orbit, a day is an epoch
In their lexicons, for every word
وَلِكُلِّ لَفظٍ في المَعاجِمِ عِندَهُم
مَعنىً يُقالُ بِأَنَّهُ مَعقولُ
There is a meaning claimed reasonable
Their politics have ripened and its dye is fixed
نَصَلَت سِياسَتُهُم وَحالَ صِباغُها
وَلِكُلِّ كاذِبَةِ الخِضابِ نُصولُ
Every falsehood has its ways and means
They gathered clever tricks and configured
جَمَعوا عَقاقيرَ الدَهاءِ وَرَكَّبوا
ما رَكَّبوهُ وَعِندَكَ التَحليلُ
What they did, while you possess analysis
O Saad you are our leader and deputy
يا سَعدُ أَنتَ زَعيمُنا وَوَكيلُنا
وَعَلَيكَ عِندَ مَليكِنا التَعويلُ
On you lies our trust before our King
Repel and fight for the demands of a nation
فَاِدفَع وَناضِل عَن مَطالِبِ أُمَّةٍ
يا سَعدُ أَنتَ أَمامَها مَسئولُ
O Saad you are accountable before it
The Nile's source and mouth are ours
النيلُ مَنبَعُهُ لَنا وَمَصَبُّهُ
ما إِن لَهُ عَن أَرضِها تَحويلُ
It cannot be diverted from our land
It trusted you with unfailing trust
وَثِقَت بِكَ الثِقَةَ الَّتي لَم يَنفَرِج
لِلرَيبِ فيها وَالشُكوكِ سَبيلُ
No doubts or suspicions can permeate
It made your place in hearts into love
جَعَلَت مَكانَكَ في القُلوبِ مَحَبَّةً
أَو بَعدَ ذاكَ عَلى الوَلاءِ دَليلُ
Or after that, loyalty's proof
It nearly died when you were wounded and betrayed
كادَت تُجَنُّ وَقَد جُرِحتَ وَخانَها
صَبرٌ عَلى حَملِ الخُطوبِ جَميلُ
Patience in bearing adversities is beautiful
None remain in it but those who pray
لَم يَبقَ فيها ناطِقٌ إِلّا دَعا
لَكَ رَبَّهُ وَدُعاؤُهُ مَقبولُ
To their Lord for you, and their prayers are accepted
O Saad, the feast nearly became a funeral
يا سَعدُ كادَ العيدُ يُصبِحُ مَأتَماً
الدَمعُ فيهِ أَسىً عَلَيكَ يَسيلُ
On your account, tears freely flow
Had God not defended, misfortunes would have collapsed
لَولا دِفاعُ اللَهِ لَاِنطَوَتِ المُنى
عِندَ اِنطِوائِكَ وَاِنقَضى التَأميلُ
When you collapsed, and hopes been severed
Paralyzed are the fingers of he who shot you
شَلَّت أَنامِلُ مَن رَمى فَلِكَفِّهِ
حَزُّ المُدى وَلِكَفِّكَ التَقبيلُ
For your palm, deadly aim, and for your palm, a kiss
This is your medal above your chest without peer
هَذا وِسامُكَ فَوقَ صَدرِكَ ما لَهُ
مِن بَينِ أَوسِمَةِ الفَخارِ مَثيلُ
Among the medals of pride ever made
You have adorned it with sincere, pure blood
حَلَّيتَهُ بِدَمٍ زَكِيٍّ طاهِرٍ
في حُبِّ مِصرَ مَصونُهُ مَبذولُ
Freely shed in Egypt's love and care
In every age, criminals repeat their crime
في كُلِّ عَصرٍ لِلجُناةِ جَريرَةٌ
لَيسَت عَلى مَرِّ الزَمانِ تَزولُ
It does not disappear through time
They schemed against Omar the Just who judged us
جاروا عَلى الفاروقِ أَعدَلَ مَن قَضى
فينا وَزَكّى رَأيَهُ التَنزيلُ
And purified his opinion by the Revelation
And Ali, the purest of mouth and hand
وَعَلى عَلِيٍّ وَهوَ أَطهَرُنا فَماً
وَيَداً وَسَيفُ نَبِيِّنا المَسلولُ
The drawn sword of our prophet
Stop, orator of the East, renew our pact
قِف يا خَطيبَ الشَرقِ جَدِّد عَهدَنا
قَبلَ الرَحيلِ لِيُقطَعَ التَأويلُ
Before departure, to cut off misinterpretation
Negotiate, and if you sense evil, stand resolute
فاوِض فَإِن أَوجَستَ شَرّاً فَاِعتَزِم
وَاِقطَع فَحَبلُكَ بِالهُدى مَوصولُ
And sever ties, for your rope is guided
And return us with dignity, robed
وَاِرجِع إِلَينا بِالكَرامَةِ كاسِياً
وَعَلَيكَ مِن زَهَراتِها إِكليلُ
Crowned with its blossoms
We will work toward deliverance and not despair
إِنّا سَنَعمَلُ لِلخَلاصِ وَلا نَني
وَاللَهُ يَقضي بَينَنا وَيُديلُ
And God will judge between us and elucidate
How many states did morning witness thriving
كَم دَولَةٍ شَهِدَ الصَباحُ جَلالَها
وَأَتى عَلَيها اللَيلُ وَهيَ فُلولُ
Then night came upon them, remnants and ruins
How many towering palaces in the darkness
وَقُصورِ قَومٍ زاهِراتٍ في الدُجى
طَلَعَت عَلَيها الشَمسُ وَهيَ طُلولُ
Dawn rose upon them empty and bare
O noble youth, greetings
يا أَيُّها النَشءُ الكِرامُ تَحِيَّةً
كَالرَوضِ قَد خَطَرَت عَلَيهِ قَبولُ
Like a garden, blossoms rain upon you
O Egypt's flower, jewel, and protector
يا زَهرَ مِصرَ وَزَينَها وَحُماتَها
مَدحي لَكُم بَعدَ الرَئيسِ فُضولُ
My praise of you after the president is redundant
You found her with your soul in youth's roses
جُدتُم لَها بِالنَفسِ في وَردِ الصِبا
وَالوَردُ لَم يُنظَر إِلَيهِ ذُبولُ
The roses were not seen wilting
How many prisoners and fighters for her
كَم مِن سَجينٍ دونَها وَمُجاهِدٍ
دَمُهُ عَلى عَرَصاتِها مَطلولُ
Spilled blood on her streets
Follow the president's path and accomplish
سيروا عَلى سَنَنِ الرَئيسِ وَحَقِّقوا
أَمَلَ البِلادَ فَكُلُّكُم مَأمولُ
The nation's hopes, for you are all trusted
You are the men of tomorrow, and tomorrow
أَنتُم رِجالُ غَدٍ وَقَد أَوفى غَدٌ
فَاِستَقبِلوهُ وَحَجِّلوهُ وَطولوا
Has kept faith, so face it reverently, lengthen yourselves
