1. لَو يَنظِمونَ اللَآلي مِثلَ ما نُظِمَت

    مُذ غِبتَ عَنّا عُيونُ الفَضلِ وَالأَدَبِ

    If they strung pearls like they strung poems

    Since the eyes of virtue and refinement left us

  2. لَأَقفَرَ الجيدُ مِن دُرٍّ يُحيطُ بِهِ

    وَالثَغرُ مِن لُؤلُؤٍ وَالكَأسُ مِن حَبَبِ

    The neck would be empty of surrounding pearls

    The lips empty of pearls and the cup empty of wine
