بَني نَهشَلٍ لا أَصلَحَ اللَهُ بَينَكُم
وَزادَ الَّذي بَيني وَبَينَكُمُ بُعدا
O Banu Nahshal, may Allah not make peace between you,
And increase the distance between me and you.
أَمِن شَرِّ حَيٍّ لا تَزالُ قَصيدَةٌ
تُغَنّي بِها الرُكبانُ طالِعَةً نِجدا
Is it from the evil of a living man whose poem
Will be sung by caravans ascending to Najd?
غَضِبتُم عَلَينا أَن عَلَتكُم مُجاشِعٌ
وَكانَ الَّذي يَحمي ذِمارُكُمُ عَبدا
You were angry with us because pasturing camels came upon you,
And the one who protected your sheep was a slave.
