غَلَبتُمُ الناسَ بِالحَقِّ الَّذي لَكُمُ

عَلَيهِمُ وَبِضَربٍ غَيرِ تَعذيرِ

You have overcome the people with the right that is yours

Over them, with a beating that is not an excuse

إِنَّ الرَسولُ قَضاهُ اللَهُ رَحمَتَهُ

لِلناسِ وَالناسُ في ظَلماءَ دَيجورِ

Indeed the Messenger, may Allah have mercy on him

For the people, while the people are in dark gloom

لَقَد عَجِبتُ مِنَ الأَزدِيَّ جاءَ بِهِ

يَقودُهُ لِلمَنايا حَينُ مَغرورِ

I was amazed by the Azdi who came with him

Leading him to death when he was deluded

حَتّى رَآهُ عِبادُ اللَهِ في دَقَلٍ

مُنَكَّساً وَهوَ مَقرونٌ بِخِنزيرِ

Until the servants of Allah saw him in shackles

Bowed down while he was tied to a pig

لَلسُفنُ أَهوَنُ بَأساً إِذ تُقَوِّدُها

في الماءِ مَطلِيَّةَ الأَلواحِ بِالقيرِ

The ships are less powerful when their planks

Are caulked in the water with tar

وَهُم قِيامٌ بِأَيديهِم مَجادِفُهُم

مُنَطَّقينَ عُراةً في الدَقاريرِ

And they are standing with their oars in their hands

Girded naked in the skirmishes

حَتّى رَأَوا لِأَبي العاصي مُسَوَّمَةً

تَعدو كَراديسَ بِالشُمِّ المَغاويرِ

Until they saw Abu Al-‘Assi’s branded

Racing like meteors with the setting sun

مِن حَربِ آلِ أَبي العاصي إِذا غَضِبوا

بِكُلِّ أَبيَضَ كَالمِخراقِ مَأثورِ

From the war of the clan of Abu Al-‘Assi when they rage

With every white like a worn-out cloak

اِخسَأَ كُلَيبٌ فَإِنَّ اللَهَ أَنزَلَكُم

قِدماً مَنازِلَ إِذلالٍ وَتَصغيرِ

Be disappointed O Kulaib, for Allah has brought you down

To stations of humiliation and belittlement
