عَضَّت سُيوفُ تَميمٍ حينَ أَغضَبَها

رَأسَ اِبنِ عَجلى فَأَضحى رَأسُهُ شَذَبا

The swords of Tameem bit when they were enraged

The head of Ibn 'Ajlan so his head became cloven

كانَت سُلَيمٌ بِهِ رَأساً فَقَد عَثَرَت

بِها الجُدودُ وَصارَت بَعدَهُ ذَنَبا

Sulaym was once his head, but she stumbled over it

Lineages thereby tripped and it became thereafter a tail
