أَلا أَيُّها السُؤالُ عَن جِلَّةِ القِرى
وَعَن غالِبٍ وَالقَبرُ مِن دونِ غالِبِ
O you who ask about the ruins of encampments
And about one who conquered, while the grave is mightier than any conqueror
لَقَد ضَمَّتِ الأَكفانُ مِن آلِ دارِمٍ
فَتىً فايِضَ الكَفَّينِ مَحضَ الضَرايِبِ
The shrouds have certainly enveloped the nobility of the house of Dārim
A gallant man, open-handed with the taxes
فَمَن لِقِرى المَقرورِ في لَيلَةِ الصَبا
وَساعٍ عَلى آثارِ تِلكَ النَوايِبِ
So who will lament the encampments on a night of yearning
While following the traces of those elegies
