أَلا إِنَّ مِسكيناً بَكى وَهوَ ضارِعٌ
لِفَقدِ اِمرِئٍ ما كانَ يَشبَعُ طائِرُه
Lo, indeed Miskin wept, humbly pleading,
for the loss of a man whose bird was never sated.
إِذا ذُكِرَت أَيدي الكِرامِ إِلى النَدى
وَآثارُها ذَمَّت يَدَيهِ مَعاشِرُه
When the hands of the generous are recalled for their bounty,
along with their traces, his companions condemn his hands.
وَلا تَبكِ مِن فَقدِ اِمرِئٍ لَستَ ذاكِراً
لَهُ لامَةً إِلّا اِستَمَرَّت مَرائِرُه
And do not weep for the loss of a man—you never mentioned
a reproach to him without his cords of resolve growing taut.
