For love of you has brought me to lands hateful
to me, and to a ruddy, hairless Roman in Amman.
And if I had two souls—if there came, advancing,
upon one of them, before I reached you, blood-red death,
I would live through the other after it, once it had completed
its span; perhaps my soul through it would be granted long life.
Then our riding camels would surely race across the wilderness,
toward you, carrying us, striding with a vigorous gait.
