1. Had I been, in the vengeance you were seeking,

    like the young men of ʿAbs or the youths of Ṣubāḥ,

  2. I would have rid you of disgrace in every encounter,

    and you would have found no reprover censuring your deeds.

  3. And this is the final outcome of what your own hands have wrought:

    someone thrust you aside when you tried to pursue your aim.

  4. Nor, if he did not exact his due from them, would

    Jirāḥ be a true Jirāḥ in the matter of a shorn woman.
