إِنّي إِلى خَيرِ البَرِيَّةِ كُلِّها

رَحَلتُ وَما ضاقَت عَلَيَّ المَطامِعُ

I have journeyed to the best of all mankind,

And my hopes have not been too constricted.

إِلى القائِدِ المَيمونِ وَالمُهتَدى بِهِ

إِذِ الناسُ مَتبوعٌ وَآخَرُ تابِعُ

To the auspicious leader and rightly guided one,

When people follow and continue.

طُبِعتَ عَلى الإِسلامِ وَالحَزمِ وَالنَدى

أَلا إِنَّما تُبدي الأُمورَ الطَبائِعُ

You were created with Islam, wisdom, and clarity.

Indeed, dispositions reveal matters.

فَداكَ رِجالٌ أَوقَدوا ثُمَّ أَخمَدوا

مَنازِلُهُم مِن كُلِّ خَيرٍ بَلاقِعُ

May men ransom you who kindled then extinguished,

Their dwellings filled with every goodness.

أَرى الشَمسَ فيها الروحُ سيقَت هَدِيَّةً

إِلَيَّ وَقَد أَعيَت عَلَيَّ المَضاجِعُ

I see the sun within it the soul brought as a gift,

And beds have tired me.

تَبَسَّمُ عَن غُرٍّ عِذابٍ كَأَنَّها

أَقاحٌ تُرَوّيها الذِهابُ اللَوامِعُ

It smiles despite intense torture as though

A meadow watered by the shining stars.

كَأَنَّ مُجاجَ النَحلِ بَينَ لِثاتِها

وَماءُ سَحابٍ أَحرَزَتهُ الوَقائِعُ

As if bees' buzzing among their hives

And rain clouds have secured it.

وَكادَت بَناتُ النَفسِ تَخرُجُ وَالحَشا

وَتَنفَضُّ مِن وَجدٍ عَلَيها الأَضالِعُ

Almost the daughters of the soul emerge and beasts

Burst out from fervor upon it.

أَراني إِذا دارٌ بِظَمياءَ طَوَّحَت

أَخا زَفَراتٍ تَعتَقِبها الفَواجِعُ

I see myself when a house in darkness collapsed,

A brother to snarls followed by calamities.
