إِذا دَمَعَت عَيناكَ وَالشَوقُ قائِدُن

لِذي الشَوقِ حَتّى تَستَبينَ المُكَتَّما

When your eyes weep and longing leads you,

To the one you long for, until the hidden becomes clear,

ظَلِلتَ تُبَكّي الحَيَّ وَالرَبعُ دارِسٌ

وَقَد مَرَّ بَعدَ الحَيِّ حَولٌ تَجَرَّما

You weep for the departed neighborhood, and time is devastating,

After the loved ones, seasons have passed.

وَشَبَّهتَ رَسمَ الدارِ إِذ أَنتَ واقِفٌ

عَلَيها تَكُفُّ الدَمعَ بُرداً مُسَهَّما

You imagined the outline of the house when you stood

Upon it, holding back the tears, cold and decisive.
