    and the light of day, eloquent and foreign-tongued alike.

  3. And among us is he who saved the child from burial alive, and never ceased

    to stand defiant against his enemies, refusing to be wronged.

  4. And many a neighbor we protected—were it not for our ropes,

    he would, in war's wake, have become a corpse cut to pieces.

  5. We raised for him—until the star coursed beneath it—

    a ladder that came to rest on a pillar of the Milky Way.
