O son of Abi Hadhir, O worst of flatterers

You are the ransom for the servants of Ibn Abbad

You are the ransom for one better than you, revered

When parting, and better than you in the assembly

Al-Mazini, whom you malign at first

When you race with fathers and forefathers

More cuckoo-like, more flashy, pure without alloy

    Echoing between fools and assemblies

His smooth forehead, generous fine wood, carefully chosen

He never knew the taste of a mother's breast

You are the son of Alqamah, praiseworthy, his heir

And your uncle Si'r, the price of Egypt and the nomad

You see the pots of Ibn Abbad encamped

While people disperse from him satisfied and replete

He walks at nightfall becoming at dawn Abbad

    Whose breast gleams among scabbards
