أَفي نَوارَ تُناجيني وَقَد عَلِقَت

مِنّي نَوارُ بِحَبلٍ مُحكَمِ العُقَدِ

Do you whisper to me in the glow of fires, when from me

The glow has been tied with a knotted rope?

إِن كُنتَ ناقِلَ عِزّي عَن أُرومَتِهِ

فَاِنقُل شَرَورَى فَأَورِدهُ عَلى أُحَدِ

If you relay my glory from its high place,

Then relay my misfortunes, and direct them to Uhud.

أَو كُنتَ ناقِلَ عِزّي عَن أَرومَتِهِ

فَاِنقُل ثَبيراً بِما جَمَّعتَ مِن سَبَدِ

Whether you relay my glory from its high place,

Then relay news of how I gathered the army at Badr.
