1. أَرى الدَهرَ لا يُبقي كَريماً لِأَهلِهِ

    وَلا تُحرِزُ اللُؤمانَ مِنهُ المَهارِبُ

    I see time does not leave one noble for his own

    Nor can the gifted escape its sudden turns

  2. أَرى كُلَّ حَيٍّ مَيِّتاً فَمُوَدِّعاً

    وَإِن عاشَ دَهراً لَم تَنُبهُ النَوائِبُ

    I see all the living as if dead, bidding farewell

    Though one lives an age, misfortunes stay asleep
