Though his hands were tied, he slipped free,
And Atiyya came round and turned back,
I saw Ibn al-Maraghah's son when he was prodded,
He changed, but not his donkey's beard,
Come, let's make pilgrimage to Mecca, then ask
For us and you from Quda'a or Nizār,
And Ibn al-Husayn's comrades, so don't neglect them,
Men of Yemen, great in glory,
There you would have attributed to Banu Kulaib,
Finding them most loyal and small,
It was not the rainclouds that deceived Banu Kulaib,
With my two storms, when I came to help and towered high,
Rain clouds in the open plain heard thunder roar,
So they fled the lightning when it burst forth,
They rushed to their caves to escape it,
As it came tearing out rocks down the slope,
Overcoming them at a fatal moment when prudence failed,
I satirized the whelps of Yarbūʿ, huts,
And the greatest among them a disgraceful whore,
For you and Kulaib are in bet,
Like the running donkey with the mare,
