شَكَونا إِلَيكَ الجَهدَ في السَنَةِ الَّتي

أَقامَت عَلى أَموالِنا آفَةَ المَحلِ

We complained to You of hardship during the year

That brought misfortune upon our wealth,

فَلَم يَبقَ مِن مالٍ يَسومُ لِأَهلِهِ

وَلا مَرتَعٌ في حَزمِ أَرضٍ وَلا سَهلِ

Leaving no property for a man to allot to his family,

Nor pasturage in a tract of land or plain.

سِواءَكَ أَشكو القَومَ ما قَد أَصابَهُم

عَلى الجَهدِ وَالبَلوى الَّتي كُنتَ قَد تُبلي

To You I complain of people whom You have afflicted

With hardship and tribulation that You used to send.
