ما زِلتُ أَرمي الكَلبَ حَتّى تَرَكتُهُ
كَسيرَ جَناحٍ ما تَقومُ جَبايِرُه
I kept pelting the dog until I made him
Like a broken-winged bird, with no power in its wings.
فَأَقعى عَلى أَذنابِ أَلأَمِ مَعشَرٍ
عَلى مَضَضٍ مِنّي وَذَلَّت عَشائِرُه
So I crouched over the tails of humiliated kinsfolk
Suffering from my bile, their clans humbled.
أَخو الحَربِ إِن عَضَّت بِهِ فَلَّ نابُها
وَسَبّاقُ غاياتٍ وَمَجدٍ يُساوِرُه
War's brother, if it bites him its fang falls out.
He races to the peaks of glory, keeping pace with it.
