1. The slave al-Ṭirimmāḥ has indeed torn away his veil,

    and scorched his people with a fire, so they burned—

  2. a blaze that roasted faces among them, as though they were

    the faces of pigs roasted over the fire.

  3. So Ṭayyiʾ did not beget a noble mother for al-ʿAlāfī,

    but an old woman who bore vile offspring, and few.

  4. We found the collars of baseness allied to Ṭayyiʾ,

    clinging to it wherever it passed the night and day.

  5. And no tribe has barred us from its homeland,

    when Tamīm sought shade beneath swords:

  6. sons of chaste women of noble Tamīm,

    who bore them to the noblest fathers among men.

  7. And but for fear that Ṭayyiʾ would be massacred,

    it would never have prostrated itself to God or prayed.

  8. Christians and Nabataeans, paying tribute,

    rushing with it at a gallop whenever it is called for.

  9. It made them drink deadly poison until they reeled,

    and they met my spear, rigid, and it held firm.

  10. The women of Ṭayyiʾ openly flaunt their shame,

    and her secrets are the foulest when she conceals them.

  11. She has a forehead like a pounding-stone, its rim growing damp,

    when her jowls swell and rise high.

  12. Do you recall the affair of al-Azd—you are not one of them—

    and what Oman suffered at our hands, and how it was humbled?

  13. We killed them until we wiped out their fugitives,

    and their women were taken captive and made lawful to us.

  14. You have forgotten a fierce day at Qindābīl,

    a renowned day, when al-Azd’s slain were dragged across the plain.
