1. لعَمرِيَ لا أَنسى أَيادِيَ أَصبَحَت

    عَلَيَّ وَلا الفَضلَ الَّذي أَنا شاكِرُه

    By my life! I shall not forget the hands

    That have favored me, nor the grace for which I am grateful,

  2. دَعاني أَبو الأَشبالِ لَمّا تَقاذَفَت

    بِمُطَّرَحِ الأَرجاءِ ما أَنا حاذِرُه

    The father of cubs called me when

    Dangers were striking from all quarters, which I feared,

  3. فَأَنقَذَني مِنها وَقَد خِفتُ أَن أَرى

    رَهينَةَ أَمرٍ ما تُرامُ تَراتِرُه

    And he saved me from them though I dreaded

    To become captive to a fate beyond remedy,

  4. وَلَستُ بِناسٍ مِنهُ نُعماهُ إِذ جَلَت

    عَشا بَصَرٍ ما كانَ يُسفِرُ حائِرُه

    And I am not of those whose favors are lost

    When the vision of an owl cannot see what makes it wander.
