عَلى مَن وَراءَ الرَدمِ لَو دُكَّ عَنهُمُ

لَماجوا كَما ماجَ الجَرادَ وَطَوَّفوا

If the mound were removed from those behind it

They would surge as the locusts swarmed and circled around

فَهُم يَعدِلونَ الأَرضَ لَولاهُمُ اِستَوَت

عَلى الناسِ أَو كادَت تَسيرُ فَتُنسَفُ

For they make the land equable, were it not for them it would be still

Upon the people, or it would nearly proceed to be demolished

وَلَو أَنَّ سَعداً أَقبَلَت مِن بِلادِها

لَجاءَت بِيَبرينَ اللَيالي تَزَحَّفُ

And if Sa'da came from her lands

The nights would come crawling with dryness
