1. I see al-Ziʿul, son of ʿUrwa, as he runs,

    When he races to the finish of the wagered contest.

  2. And the son of ʿUrwa will see, when we race

    Toward the finish lines, on the day he sees my position.

  3. So whoever stands among the heights of honor and glory

    Comes from your illustrious, dignified forefathers.

  4. You inherited noble traditions and did not neglect them,

    And every builder fell short of your edifice.

  5. And when you rise, you rise for lofty honors;

    And when you speak, you speak with eloquence.

  6. And you freely give bounty to those who ask for it,

    And you slake the Zāʿibī spears in spear combat.

  7. And when you strike for lofty honors, you strike

    At the center of the knot of the reins.
