Ibn Bishr withdrew, and Ibn ʿAmr before him;
The son of Bishr and the son of 'Amr took it before him,
And the man of Herat awaits the same fate.
And the brother of Haratha hopes for the like of it.
And the riding camels departed for Maslama as he was bid farewell.
The riding-camels went to Maslama bidding farewell,
So graze, Fazara—may the pasture bring you no joy!
So pasture in Fazara, not there is the pasture.
And I know full well, if Fazara is given command,
And indeed I knew that if Fazara is commanded,
That Ashjaʿ will covet the governorship.
The bravest will covet the command.
Indeed, the signs of the Resurrection have drawn near:
Indeed the Resurrection has drawn near its preludes
Even Umayya gives way before Fazara.
Until Umayya removes Fazara.
