1. O ʿAyyāsh, you have turned all your horses into non-Arab hacks,

    though before Jadīlah’s two sons you kept purebred Arab steeds.

  2. You seek favor by arranging marriages for the lowborn, yet you have only

    committed the deed that disgraced those present and those absent.

  3. The son of Aʿyā came to you when his old father left him helpless,

    to make al-Zibriqān’s daughter a father for himself.

  4. You were reduced to an ape, turned away from love-poetry, and you were not

    to resemble Ḥazn and Taghlib in old age.
