1. Indeed, Bilal, if you meet him safe and sound,

    will shield you from what you fear on every side.

  2. His father is Abu Musa, Muhammad's close friend.

    And his two palms are rain whose showers pour forth.

  3. Toward you I saddled the sturdy she-camel, until I made her kneel

    before you, though she had proved too much for every traveler.

  4. And my mount had jolted my saddle on her back

    toward you; my young she-camel had attached herself to no patron.

  5. So I said to her, 'Visit Bilal, for he

    is every seeker's destination—so bring me to him.'

  6. If indeed her forefeet have pounded a sandal because of soreness,

    it was toward the best man sought as a rider's halting-place,

  7. toward the son of Abu Musa, before whom bowed down

    the marzban kings, leaning forward upon their hands.

  8. So I am not one to choose anyone but you for hospitality,

    nor as a halting-place for hardy, noble-bred she-camels.

  9. They fight, once their saddles are unfastened,

    with their mouths against ravens from every side.

  10. I saw Bilal buying every lofty rank

    of glory at the highest price, outbidding every seeker.

  11. His father, Abu Musa, raised him to that height

    by which the climber reaches the celestial stars.

  12. They say, 'Indeed, we have already provided for you—so depart.'

    Such are the nights, with calamities circling.

  13. He rescued him for me, after he had been brought to the brink

    of the dust-gray abyss by crooked-shouldered

  14. pitfalls such that, whenever they hurl him down,

    he sees that he will not return from their depths.
