What a fine legacy a man bequeathed to his people—
How excellent is the heritage a man leaves his people,
Umayr, son of Amr and the chaste Sulajim—
Umayr son of Umar and his fine steed!
his sons, sons of a radiant woman who has raised them
His sons, the sons of Gharra, whom he raised
to the house of Sa'd, possessor of eminence, and Darim.
To the abode of Sa'd of lofty reputation and everlasting glory,
Muharriq raised their lineage to Sa'd's proud crest,
He nurtured them to the bosoms of Sa'd's eagles
and so did Wa'il's men of wisdom and mighty deeds.
And the people of Nuha, men of renown and glory.
Umayr is their father, a man of worthy endeavors, and their grandfather
Umayr their father, man of great deeds, their grandfather
is Dubay'a, mighty smiter of necks and skulls.
Dhubay'a, smiter of skulls and oppressors,
They are the lofty crown of the house of Wa'il,
They are the exalted standard of the clan of Wail
and its horsemen in the close-packed straits of battle.
And its knights in the closely pressed battle.
Umayr is your father, so take pride in his deeds
Umayr your father - so boast of his deeds
when the peoples count the men of noble virtues.
When men recount the most generous souls,
And Jariya, the highborn sire, built for them
The noble slave-girl built for them
memorable deeds of glory, their pillars firmly rooted.
Monuments of lasting glory on firm foundations.
