1. Al-Bahzi favored me with it—may my soul be his ransom.

    And whoever is his client is not alone.

  2. And what a fine young man Isa is, when the mature she-camels yield little milk,

    And bring scant milk, cold in the night.

  3. The forelocks of Sulaym raised him to the heights,

    And roots of true nobility between Nasr and Khalid.

  4. You rightfully possess noble virtues, and you have not found

    A father of yours except a noble man and the son of a noble man.

  5. And you are the one on whom Nizar has come to rely

    To fend off enemies and grievous troubles.

  6. I shall give praise for what you have bestowed on me, and recount it,

    When the people count their merits in public assemblies.

  7. Mughith, possessed of noble deeds and lofty rank, linked you by descent

    To the finest clan of Sulaym and the finest father.

  8. They are the stronghold of honor in which protection is sought

    When one of the crushing calamities descends upon the people.

  9. And they built higher than the builders, and fought

    For noble deeds that did not belie a praiser's words.

  10. May my soul and my father be your ransom, O son of Nasr,

    And all the wealth I have, newly acquired and inherited.
