Did you not see me call to Salm, though between us lay
Did you not see me call out to Salma, though below her
a stretch of land that wears out swift-running mules?
Was land enough to tire the camels of caravans?
So I said to him, 'Give me my mother's son, for I see none
I said to her, "Grant me, daughter of my mother, your son -
remaining forever, O Salm of noble deeds.'
I see no nobler traits enduring in this world."
He said, 'Yes, take him'; no sooner had he been brought by
She said, "Yes, take him." But my right hand did not accept him
my right hand than my left came to its aid.
Until my left hand cried out for him.
