Have you not seen what Nawar said? Unbeknownst to her,
Did you not see what Nawar said, and below her
I harbor a hidden sorrow that I conceal.
Lies grief for me, though hidden, I who conceal it,
She says, her eyes overflowing: "Do you see
Saying, while her eyes overflow, "Can you see
where you stand with one I do not see you challenging?
Your place with one from whom you are estranged?"
Keep away from al-Hajjaj, for contending with him
Keep away from the Pilgrim when the crowd is dense around him,
is fierce, even when he overlooks those who contend with him.
For it is violent if it jostles one who jostles it,
And who feels safe from al-Hajjaj, while the jinn fear
And none feels secure from Pilgrims and Jinn except
his punishment, except one whose resolve is weak?"
The weak-willed, whatever his determination.
