    the treasure-bridges of one who had amassed wealth before you.

  2. They are not like those the foreigners build, or the one shifted

    from the crossing by ships' hulls—the pitch-coated bridge.

  3. White ones of silver, and others with swaying loops—

    Heraclian, yellow, from Caesar's mint.

  4. You accomplished what had baffled Ibn Harb, and before him,

    had baffled your resolute, chosen father;

  5. and what had already baffled al-Walid, and after him,

    Sulayman, in freeing those who had spent ages among the Romans.

  6. It had also baffled Abu Hafs; you broke off them

    the riveted iron upon the shins of captives.

  7. But for the one after whom no goodness remains among people—

    through him God killed the one who had given tidings;

  8. through him God destroyed the Mazun and those who hastened

    to them, as He had destroyed the Pharaohs.

    in father, brother, and ancestry, except for the Prophet.

  11. I shall praise the best of creation, and the one

    whose rain-cloud rose over the people and poured down.

  12. I see that God has sent mercy through your two palms

    upon the people: water gushing forth to fill the earth.

  13. Reared by kings, amid inheritances where there has always been

    a king who, if he died, bequeathed a pulpit.

  14. You built what brought Sulayman and his son to life,

    and Dawud, and the jinn whom he had subjected.

  15. Thus it became an enduring bridge, and He will demolish it

    when He demolishes a rampart holding back Ya'juj and raises the dead,

  16. by His might—God, who will raise

    servants of His from among His creation when He resurrects them.
