Indeed, the calamity is Ibrahim's death:
Indeed, Abraham's demise is an affliction
it shattered the mountains, and the pillar stood alone.
It shook the mountains though he stood alone
The full moon of day and the sun of the earth—we bury him,
We bury the sun of daytime, earth's sun
and in our breasts is anguish whose sting burns.
In hearts, sorrows that cut deep reside
Indeed, I have seen the sons of Marwan as your finest men,
I saw the Marwanids, their pride misguided
and those who give food when others withhold,
Those you feed, if you change, their bond's denied
and the foremost when their arenas are spread wide,
First-placers, if their winning posts retreat
and the benefactors when gifts grow scarce,
Patrons, if gifts run dry, their help deplete
and those who extend their forbearance to the client,
Loyal hearts, to their lord ever mellow
and the most glorious: they outshine whoever vies with them.
The glorious, he who rivals, they belittle
