I was burdened by your singing, O bulbul,
And how could I not be burdened by your singing?
You brought back to my heart memories of beauty,
So you are most beautiful in recollection.
You conveyed to my hearing the voice of my love -
What bounty you bring, excellent conveyor!
It's as if you were sent to play
A beautiful role in my heart, O messenger!
Flit, flit about on the branch, warbling,
So your singing in my soul murmurs.
For soon the curtain of my life
Will fall upon all that passed me by.
But tomorrow when I become dust,
And my sealed grave hides me,
Come wrap my living heart like a flower
That folds without withering.
Come, sing a little, though despite
What befell me, I am most generous.
For your voice is a roaming poetry in my mind,
Revelation from God or something revealed.
Come, you'll find above my grave a boulder -
My heavy sorrow that I carry.
And a willow bending at times,
Played with by the breeze.
Near that grave a formidable valley
Pierced by a streambed,
The years pass over it hurriedly
Like birds that hurried cannot be slowed.
These birds are like joys of my heart
Flying rapidly, never lingering.
But sorrow remains, increasing,
Doing in the chest what it does.
Come tomorrow when I become lonely
And visit me, questioning visitor.
Let my heart hear a poignant melody
To revive in it the first love!
