O poet of beauty, here is the splendor of the festival,
So summon your inspiration and chant the anthems.
This is the bliss that you have long sought;
Do not be distracted from it by things that do not exist.
The beauties of summer are in every plain and upon every mountain,
And the ecstasy of summer stirs even the solid boulders.
You see no face that is not radiant,
And you hear nothing but the voice of the warbler.
Rise and tell the people how Lebanon has escaped
From the insolent tyrants, both white and black;
And how Damascus has blossomed after its ordeal,
And reclaimed all that was stolen and lost.
For today no foreigner tyrannizes us,
Nor scorns us with the insolence of a drunkard.
O Cedars, clap your hands, and O children of the Cedars, rejoice!
The flock is now safe from the master.
No nightingale, once imprisoned and then set free
By its jailer after torture and torment,
Then went traversing the vast expanse in flight,
To the hills, the streams, and the tender boughs,
To the meadows, praying within their open stages,
To the vineyards, singing to the clusters—
Is happier in soul than I, having settled among
My stalwart people, the sons of stalwart ancestors.
The sky of Lebanon is a joy reflected in their features,
And its dawn shines in the smiles of the graceful maidens.
If you dwell on the mountain peak, the peak becomes our sanctuary,
And if you descend to the desert, we shall love nothing but the desert.
