My smile is like a rose at dawn's first light,
Smile like the rose at the dawn of the breeze,
And my smile is like a star when night grows dim.
And smile like the star when the night grows dark,
When snow blankets the land in a frigid cloak,
And if the snow has shrouded the earth,
When clouds veil the sky in a somber film,
And if the clouds have veiled the sky,
When the meadow sheds its bouquet of blooms,
And the garden is stripped bare of its flowers,
And the light cowers in the cave of winter grim,
And the light has vanished into the cave of winter,
Dream of summer, and smile,
Then dream of the summer, and smile;
To conjure flowers and fragrance around you.
You will create around you blossoms and fragrance.
If you find souls who excel at taking,
And if it pleases some souls that they
Be joyous in giving.
Master the art of taking, then be pleased with giving,
If weariness keeps you from giving riches,
And if you are unable to bestow riches,
Be glad you can give hope.
Then rejoice that you bestow hope.
