كيف لا يشتدّ وَسْواسي

حيث أشعارك تدراسي

How can my anguish not intensify

How could my obsessive whispers not intensify,

When your poetry is my study

When your verses are my subject of study?

ما اقتنى مثلك دهر ال

سوءِ إلا حين إفلاسي

No era has gained the likes of you

Wretched Fortune did not acquire the likes of you,

Except at my ruin and bankruptcy

Except at the time of my bankruptcy.
