1. طِفلٌ تَفنَّنَ فيه الحُسْنُ مُبتدِعا

    تكاد من طَرْفِه الأبصارُ تَخْتطفُهْ

    A child in whom beauty innovated perfection

    Eyes could barely resist snatching glances of him

  2. حِقْفٌ نما فيه غصنٌ فوقَه قمر

    يخطو فيَثْنيه من لينِ الصِّبا هَيَفُه

    A sapling grew, upon it a moon-like branch

    Stalks sway in the soft morning breeze

  3. إذا تَشفَّع ذُلِّى عند عِزَّتِه

    في عَطْفِه ورثى لي رَدَّه صَلَفُه

    When he intercedes, pride itself humbles before his nobility

    In his charm, his aloofness has bequeathed me his rejection
