1. وحاذقٍ مُحْكِمٌ كُنافَتَه

    لا تَشْبَع العينُ منه بالنَّظَرِ

    A deft and skilled confectioner is he

    The eye cannot be sated by looking upon him

  2. كأنما بَسْطُه العجينَ على

    أكراه لما حُفَّت بمستِعر

    As though he spreads the dough upon

    Hot stones when it is wrapped in live coals

  3. يَنْسج غَيْماً من السحاب على

    وامضِ برقٍ يَكْتَنُّ بالمطر

    He weaves a cloud from the clouds over

    Flashing lightning that is heavy with rain

  4. كأنه يفتح الفواقعَ دا

    راتٍ على راكدٍ من الغُدُر

    It's as if he opens dazzling seas

    Of milk over still ponds of treachery

  5. فهْي كمثلِ السَّراب يُعْدَم من

    ها اللمسُ وهْما يلوح للبصر

    It's like a mirage that perishes the moment

    You touch it though it shines before one's sight
