تَأَمَّلْ هيئةَ الهَرَمَيْن وانظُرْ

وبينهما أبو الهولِ العجيبُ

Behold the shape of the two pyramids and look

Between them the strange Sphinx

كعُمّارَّيتَيْن على رحيلٍ

بمحبوبين بينهما رقيب

Like two edifices bidding farewell

With two lovers between them a chaperone

وماءُ النيلِ تحتَهما دموعٌ

وصوتُ الريحِ عندهما نَحيب

And the Nile's water beneath them tears

And the wind's voice near them lament

وظاهِرُ سجنِ يوسفَ مثلُ صَبٍّ

تَخلَّف فَهو محزونٌ كئيب

And the evident prison of Joseph is like a youth

Who was left behind so he is sad and gloomy
