توَالَى عليّ الغدرُ منكم وأخْلقتْ

حَبائلُ ودي وانقضى منكم وَجْدِي

Betrayal upon betrayal from you has ensued, and my affectionate ties are severed,

My fervor for you is no more, and has come to an end,

وقد كنتُ أُغِضي جفنَ عِيني على القَذَى

حِفاظا وأُخفِي منكمُ بعضَ ما أُبدي

I used to turn a blind eye to your faults,

And conceal some of what I felt, as precaution,

إلى أنْ أفادتْني التجاربُ والنُّهى

سبيلَ التسلِّى فاستمرّ بها قَصْدي

Until experience and advice guided me,

To seek solace, so I persisted in that pursuit,

ليَهْنِ فؤادي أنه قد سَلاكمُ

وآمَن من خوف القَطيعةِ والصَّدَّ

To console my heart that you are avoided,

And be relieved from the fear of estrangement and rejection.
