O soul, what is this transient life you live
So limit your hopes that are bound to deceive
Alas, is it not enough that you witness
Funerals pass by, day after day without reprieve
Of a child, a youth, an elder with grey hair
A father, a son, a brother or friend so dear
Is there any excuse left that you can give
Except the false hope that makes the fool adhere
How strange that knowing this, man continues
To hoard in greed like a callous profiteer
If there was nothing beyond death, abstinence
From this world would be an obligation severe
Without death, the worries of this life
Would eliminate all inclination and desire
Yet man will stand to account before his Creator
Warnings resound, but we turn a deaf ear
