Will the vigor of my youth return to you?
In my heart is yearning for you unceasing.
When sorrow's flame for your memory stirs,
It's followed by lasting sigh and weeping.
I wept for separation before it came,
It's enough what of it came and passed.
Perhaps the wind gently blows a breeze
Bearing the scent of both coasts blending.
Telling me, did the palace stand lofty
Above the threshold of the ancient gate?
And did the water of the lake shimmer
Where duckweeds for the insects spread their cloak?
Places devoid of you, yet your traces
In my thoughts and in the meadows left.
And on the east side, by the frontier,
Is one whose deputy and intercessor is my heart.
When solace from it comes to my mind,
Yearning steps in the way, unrestrained.
It spends the night devoid of my passion,
While I retire as if bound by its love.
As if my tears saturated its cheeks,
When from it abundant tears do pour.
As if the dark, lengthy nights of estrangement,
Were adorned by it with branches.
A waist like my patience over a chest like its aggression,
So this is languid and that is versed.
A throat has two matching lips, one displays it,
The other veils it with modesty's drape.
Two partners in my heart with accord complete,
This equal to that in grace replete.
Breeze, chill, and whiteness and fragrance,
That's forbidden, and this is restrained.
Would that I knew, will my eyes and cheeks,
To sipping from its lips return at dawn?
