1. مَنْ فاتَه من نفسه وَعْظُ

    هَيْهاتَ أَنْ يَنْفعَه اللفْظُ

    He who misses self-admonition

    Alas! Speeches avail him naught

  2. ما تنفع العين إذا لم يكن

    لقلبِ من يَرْنو بها لَحْظ

    What avails the eye if the heart

    Has no glance that accompanies it

  3. لو مَلك الدنيا امرؤ جاهلٌ

    لكان ممن فاته الحظ

    If an ignorant man ruled the world

    He'd be one whom fortune missed

  4. وعالمٍ لا عملٌ عنده

    بالعلم لا ينفعُه الحفظ

    And a scholar devoid of practice

    His memorization benefits him not
